Hello AMAI Family!
In this blog series we will be posting reminders of what the students worked on the previous week. This could be helpful to make sure you know what you or your child should be working on while at home. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form then talk to your instructor about adding A Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that breakdown every section of your form and every technique!

Lil’ Dragons:
The Lil’ Dragons worked on their Dragon form this week and the techniques we worked on this past week were their ‘Dragon Leaves The Cave’ and their ‘Pounce.’ To practice their dragon leaves the cave, parents can swing a pillow towards students head. Students should duck under the pillow with their dragon claws to avoid being hit! For their pounce, parents can hold a ball or pillow out in front of their child, students should step forward into a bow stance and reach forward with their dragon claws to try and grab onto it. Keep up the good work and don’t forget to practice the form!

BASIC Program: BASIC Program students worked on sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Fighting Form! Focus on combining all three sections into one fluid form without stopping. The techniques that the Basic Students worked on are ‘Hook Punch’ and ‘Half Step Middle Punch.’ To practice their hook punch students should start in a left side fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should twist their shoulders to their left as they raise their left fist to eye level. They should twist their shoulders and punch across their body at eye level! For the half step middle punch students should start in a left side fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should step out with their front leg as they punch straight forward. Students should aim for the middle of their target, make sure to keep a slight bend in the elbow and hold your fist out after the punch to show off your power! For an added challenge try to knock out 15 push-ups, 30 elbow to knee crunches, and a 45 seconds Horse Stance!

Kids BBC Program: Last week the Kids BBC students worked on sections 1 – 4 of the Great Power form. Practice sections 1 – 4 at home at least 10 times before next week! BBC Students can also practice their ‘3 Punches’ by starting in a fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should push forward into a bow stance as they throw three consecutive punches. First students should throw a jab with their front hand as quickly as possible, followed by a cross with as much power as possible, and finally a fast and powerful straight punch. After the straight punch students should hold out their punch and keep their strong bow stance! BBC Students can also practice their ‘Front Toe Tap’ by starting in a fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should pick their rear knee up and chamber as their right hand opens up. As they kick students should shoot out their right hand and slap the laces of their shoes. Try to get a louder and louder tap to show off your power! For an added challenge try to knock out 20 push-ups, 30 elbow to knee crunches, 10 frog leaps, 25 jumping jacks, and 45 seconds of your horse stance!

Adult/Teen BBC Program: Teen and Adult BBC students worked on sections 3+4 of the Great Power form. Practice the application drill you focused on in class! Students should also review the rank specific techniques covered throughout the week. Try practicing sections 1+2 at home 10 times before your next class! For an added bonus try doing flat palm, knuckle, and fingertip pushups for 20 seconds each. As well as 20 seconds of knee slap and elbow to knee crunches, and a 2 minute horse stance.

Weapons: Weapons students learned a few exercises to strengthen the wrist such as side raises holding the root, students should also work on their forward and reverse flowers. Students also reviewed the whole form (Work on getting your form to performance quality). Practice the whole form start to finish ten times and shadow boxing with obstacles before your next class!
