Hello AMAI Family!

In this blog series, we will post reminders of what the students worked on during the previous week. This gives you or your child ideas for how to practice at home between classes. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form, talk to your instructor about adding a Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that break down every section of your form and every technique!

Last week was Buddy Week!

Lil' Dragons:  Lil' Dragons students warmed up by running through the woods. They focused on the techniques Double Tiger Claw and Stranger Defense (Big Circle). To help with their stranger defense, parents can grab onto students wrists, students should make two big outward circles with their hands and then pull straight down to break their grip. Keep on practicing your form with the words to get ready for test week!

BASIC Program: Kids BASIC students warmed up partner drills. They reviewed all the techniques from sections 1 & 2 of the Fighting Form. They focused on the first two sections of their form making sure every strike was strong, and they held their fighting stance.

Teen and Adult Basic students also worked on sections 1&2 of their fighting form focusing on cohesive combinations. They worked on building shadowboxing combos with basic techniques from their form. They also worked on blocking and countering strikes.

Kids BBC Program: Kids BBC students started class with Palm Strikes and Mountain Climbers focusing on speed and accuracy. Students worked on their self defense applications from sections one and two of the form. Students focused on their abduction defense, learning their break fall, grounded defensive position, and how to safely stand up. Keep practicing your form to prepare for testing!

Adult/Teen BBC Program: This week, the Adult and Teen BBC students warmed up by preparing for the endurance portion of their test and then practiced putting together all 4 sections of their Nan Quan form. They applied Nan Quan techniques from their form and practiced applying them in real world scenarios.

Foundation Weapons: Students in the Foundation section of weapons warmed up with forward and reverse flowers. The focus was on building shadowboxing combinations starting with just stances and then building combos with their weapons as well. Now that students have learned the form, the focus was on performance and memorizing their combinations.

Advanced Weapons: Advanced weapon students warmed up with foundation skills: Stance walking and stance shadowboxing. Like the foundation weapon students, they worked on putting all 4 sections of their form together and memorizing their combinations. Advanced weapon students are working towards one step with their weapons, they began with choreographed one step and then performed slow motion one step.
