Hello AMAI Family!

In this blog series, we will post reminders of what the students worked on during the previous week. This gives you or your child ideas for how to practice at home between classes. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form, talk to your instructor about adding a Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that break down every section of your form and every technique!

Last week was the second week of Stripe Testing for the quarter!

Lil' Dragons:  Lil' Dragons students warmed up with the Tiger form to review for stripe testing. They focused on the techniques Hold Back the Wall and X Block. To help with holding back the wall, stretch to the right and left with both hands up for 30 seconds on each side. To earn their stripe, Lil' Dragons performed the full Tiger form on their own.

BASIC Program: Kids BASIC students warmed up with pushups, crunches, jumping jacks, and holding a horse stance for 20 seconds. They reviewed all the techniques from sections 1 & 2 of the Fighting Form. For their stripe test, Kids Basic students performed the whole Fighting Form.

Teen and Adult Basic students also worked on the whole Fighting Form with a focus on performance and details. They worked on building shadowboxing combos with basic techniques. They also worked on blocking and countering strikes.

Kids BBC Program: Kids BBC students started class with pushups, crunches, jumping jacks, and a horse stance for 30 seconds. The techniques for stripe testing week were wheel kicks, forearm strikes, hook kicks, and long arms. Students performed sections 3 & 4 of the Nan Quan form for their second black stripes.

Adult/Teen BBC Program: This week, the Adult and Teen BBC students practiced roundhouse kicks to warm up and stretched before focusing on section 4 of the Nan Quan form. They used Nan Quan techniques to build shadowboxing combos. Focus on keeping low stances throughout shadowboxing and moving with confidence.

Foundation Weapons: Students in the Foundation section of weapons warmed up with arm exercises using the staff. The focus was on blocking drills and sections 3 & 4 of the form. Now that students have learned the form, the focus was on performance and moving through the form with focus and purpose.

Advanced Weapons: Advanced weapon students warmed up with foundation skills: High blocks, low blocks, outside blocks, and inside blocks. Like the foundation weapon students, they worked on blocking drills along with adding strikes. Advanced weapon students are working towards sparring with the sword and shield, so they practiced application drills and slowed sparring.
