Hello AMAI Family!

In this blog series, we will post reminders of what the students worked on during the previous week. This gives you or your child ideas for how to practice at home between classes. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form, talk to your instructor about adding a Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that break down every section of your form and every technique!

Last week was the third week of the Winter Quarter. Everyone worked hard after coming off of our short Thanksgiving break!

Lil' Dragons:  The Lil’ Dragons worked on their Tiger Style form. They started class with animal walks to warm up! This activity may seem like a game, but actually works different muscles to build strength. The techniques they focused on are the Rest Stance and Inside Crescent Kick. For the rest stance, cross both legs and try and sit all the way down to your heel. For a challenge, try holding the stance without losing balance for 10 seconds! For your inside crescent kick, find something to kick over and keep getting that kick higher.

BASIC Program: Kids BASIC students reviewed Section 1 and 2 of the Basic Fighting Form. They worked on Step up Knee and Front Snap Kick. For the snap kick, focus on snapping your kick out as fast as possible and for both techniques, make sure to breath out every time you strike.

Teen and Adult BASIC students also reviewed Section 1 and 2 of the Basic Fighting form. The focus was on the same techniques as the kids, but adult and teen students worked on building combinations with the techniques they've learned. Try putting together a combo of 5 different techniques when you practice this week!

Kids BBC Program: In Kids BBC this week, the students worked on Section 2 of the Nan Quan 4th Rotation form. With stripe testing right around the corner, keep practicing the form and if you need extra help at home, check out the YouTube videos for reference.

Adult/Teen BBC Program: This week, the Adult and Teen BBC students learned Section 2 of the Nan Quan 4th Rotation form. After learning section 2, adult students also practiced shadowboxing. Try putting together some of the common Nan Quan techniques for a shadowboxing combo! (Southern Uppercut, Long Arms, Qi-lin step, Butterfly Palms, etc.)

Foundation Weapons: In Foundation Weapons class this week, students put sections 1 and 2 together of the 16-Step Staff Form. They continued practicing 4-star blocking and continued working on Reverse Flowers. They also focused on La Na Zha and Room Clears. At home, practice shadowboxing and use moves from your form to make different 3 move combos.

Advanced Weapons: In Advanced Weapons class this week, students reviewed Section 1 and 2 of the Sun and Moon Sword and Shield form. They also started shadowboxing and application drills. Use different techniques that you've learned so far to add variety to your shadowboxing practice!
