Hello AMAI Family!
In this blog series we will be posting reminders of what the students worked on the previous week. This could be helpful to make sure you know what you or your child should be working on while at home. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form then talk to your instructor about adding A Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that breakdown every section of your form and every technique! Test week is here! Good luck to everyone taking their tests!

Lil' Dragons:
The Lil' Dragons worked on the Snake form this week and the techniques we worked on this past week were their "Snake Search" and their "Crane Stance." To practice their snake search parents could swing their arms from side to side towards their child. Students should hold one arm out to their side keeping their other hand by their elbow. Students should stop any incoming attacks with a strong block and a strong fighting stance. For the crane stance students can stand on one spot and pick up one foot and hold for as long as they can. As a bonus they can stand on a pillow or stuffed animal to making harder to balance! Keep up the good work and don't forget to practice the form!

BASIC Program: BASIC Program students worked on sections 3 of the Five Stances form! Focus on staying low in your cat stance like you're sitting in a chair that isn't there. The techniques that the Basic Students worked on are "Cat Stance Flash Palm" and "Line Kicks." To practice the cat stance flash palm students can start in a left side bow stance with their hands in guard. Students should step forward with their back leg as their left hand makes a cranes beak up above their head. As students step forward they should keep their weight on their left leg, and as they drop into their stance they should quickly palm strike straight out in front!  For the line kicks make sure there is plenty of room to practice. Students should try practicing each kick three times while walking in a straight line. Make sure to keep hands up and fingers pointing to the ceiling. Don't forget there are four kicks for them to practice (Front swing, Front toe tap, Inside crescent, and Outside Crescent)  For an added challenge try to knock out 15 push-ups, 30 elbow to knee crunches, and a 45 seconds Horse Stance!

Kids BBC Program: Last week the Kids BBC students practiced sections 1+2+3+4 of the Ferocious Tiger form. Practice the whole form at home at least 10 times before next week! BBC Students can also practice their "Tiger Claws" by holding a horse stance and keeping their hand in guard. When striking it is important to keep your fingers spread apart and bent to mimic the shape of a claw. When striking try to pull your fingers back as much as you can to strike with the heel of your palm! Students should also practice their inside blocks, inside crescent kicks, and long arms. BBC Students can also practice their "Inward Elbow" by holding wither a fighting stance or a dragon riding stance with their hands in guard. From their students should point their right elbow out to their right, then students should bring their elbow across their body as they twist their shoulders to add a lot of  power! Students should also practice their rake, downward backfist, and inward thrust kick.  For an added challenge try to knock out 20 push-ups, 30 elbow to knee crunches, 10 frog leaps, 25 Jumping Jacks and 45 seconds of your Horse Stance!

Adult/Teen BBC Program: Teen and Adult BBC students reviewed sections 1+2+3+4 of the Ferocious Tiger form. Practice the application drill you focused on in class! Students should also go over their "Uppercut" and their "Side Thrust Kick." To practice your uppercut students should start in a fighting stance with their hands in guard, start by dropping one elbow down in line with your belt and as you punch make sure your fist travels outward and upward. To add power to the punch make sure to turn your shoulders and waist. To practice their side thrust kick students should start in a fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should step up with their rear leg and pick up their front leg in a chamber, they should push with their heel as they kick straight out to the side. Try practicing sections 1+2+3+4 at home 10 times before your next class! For an added bonus try doing flat palm, knuckle, and fingertip pushups for 20 seconds each. As well as 20 seconds of knee slap and elbow to knee crunches, and a 2 minute horse stance.

Weapons: Weapons students reviewed combos 1-6 of Hook Swords last week and should practice combining all 6 sections of the form. You can also go over blocks and if possible some one step practice! Be ready to perform!
