What Martial Arts are taught at AMAI?

At AMAI, we teach the Chinese Martial Arts. The common term for Chinese martial arts is “KUNG-FU” but in China, it is called “WUSHU”. There are hundreds of different styles of “Kung-fu” or “Wushu”. At AMAI, we teach both traditional and modern styles like Shaolin, Chang Quan, Nan Quan, Hsing-i, just to name a few, and animal styles like Tiger, Snake, Eagle, Mantis and more.

Tiny Tigers (Ages 3-4)

Children between the ages of 3 & 4 years old are in a very distinct growing stage. They are embarking on new discoveries every day and learning how to cope with new challenges.  In the Tiny Tigers Program, each child will experience training that targets the skills that they are all currently developing; skills such as fine and gross motor skills, behavior development, and character development.

Technical martial arts skills are limited when it comes to traditional moves and techniques in the Tiny Tigers Program, however we use the martial arts as the vehicle to develop gross motor skills such as running, jumping, throwing etc. These skills develop balance and co-ordination in young children. A main point of Tiny Tigers is teaching children to “Listen & Do”. Following instructions is a valuable skill that must be developed at an early age. Children are rewarded at the end of each class for demonstrating progress in the areas in which we have worked on in class.

Lil’ Dragons (Ages 5-6)

Our Lil’ Dragons classes help children between the ages of 5 & 6 lay down the building blocks for future growth. We also use this class as a springboard into our Kids Classes when they reach the age of 7. Where Tiny Tigers focuses on listening skills and gross motor skill development, in Lil’ Dragons, we begin to explore the techniques and moves of the martial arts with age appropriate martial arts skills, that focuses on your child’s overall development. In the Lil’ Dragons program, we introduce MAT CHAT time, which is a character development program that teaches children exceptional character skills that helps set them up for future success!

Your child will love learning different styles of Chinese Martial Arts such as TIGER, SNAKE, LEOPARD, CRANE, EAGLE, DRAGON and more. These animal styles of kung-fu keep classes fun and interesting for the kids as they learn martial arts skills featured in many hit children’s cartoons and movies.

Kids Kung-fu (Ages 7-11)

Our Kids Martial Arts program is the #1 program for children’s martial arts in New Castle County. Rigorously designed to provide social, physical, emotional, and attitudinal growth in each of our students, our curriculum works hand-in-hand with the family and school, offering improved self-discipline, self-confidence, mental awareness, and goal-setting skills.

Kids will spend 6 months in our BASIC Program learning the foundation skills needed for our next program, The Black Belt Course. Every three months a new style of kung-fu is introduced and studied. Each new style teaches new methods of movement and self defense skills. Kids that age out of the Kids Program will move into our teen program and continue to be challenged as their journey continues.

  • Superior Concentration – for good grades.
  • Courage – to stand up for what is right even if they are standing alone.
  • Inner Strength – to say “NO” to peer pressure.
  • Patience  – to handle life’s daily challenges.
  • Courtesy and Respect – to build strong relationships with adults and peers.

Leadership Training Program

All of our instructors at AMAI are products of our kids programs and graduates of our leadership program. Being an effective leader takes excellent communication skills and should know the value of being a part of a team. All of these skills are learned and practiced in this program.

Demo Team

Kids that like to perform or want to perform will want to be apart of our demo team, where we are invited to participate in several events  throughout the year to showcase the skills taught at AMAI.
