Hello AMAI Family!
In this blog series we will be posting reminders of what the students worked on the previous week. This could be helpful to make sure you know what you or your child should be working on while at home. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form then talk to your instructor about adding A Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that breakdown every section of your form and every technique!

Lil' Dragons:
The Lil' Dragons worked on their Dragon form this week and the techniques we worked on this past week were their "Wrap Around The Pole" and their "Fly Through The Sky." To practice their wrap around the pole, parents can grab onto their students shoulders as if they were an attacker. Students should twist as they sit down breaking the attackers grip before they run to find a trusted adult! For their fly through the sky, parents can swing down towards students heads with a pillow, and students should walk in a circle evading the strike and staying safe. Keep up the good work and don't forget to practice the form!

BASIC Program: BASIC Program students worked on section 2 of the Fighting Form! Focus on stepping out before your hook punch to give your body room to twist. The techniques that the Basic Students worked on are "Jab + Cross" and "Front Snap Kick." To practice the jab + cross students should start in a fighting stance with their hands in guard. A jab is a punch that focuses on speed and is a front hand technique. Make sure all your jabs are with your front hand and that they are as fast as possible. A cross is a punch that focuses on power. Make sure to use your rear hand when throwing a cross punch! For the front snap kick students should start in a left side fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should step up with their rear leg as they pick up their front leg in a chamber pointing towards their target. Students should snap their foot straight out and back as quickly as possible! For an added challenge try to knock out 15 push-ups, 30 elbow to knee crunches, and a 45 seconds Horse Stance!

Kids BBC Program: Last week the Kids BBC students worked on sections 3+4 of the Great Power form. Practice sections 3+4 at home at least 10 times before next week! BBC Students can also practice their "Cross Jab Straight Punch" by starting in a fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should push to a bow stance as they punch with their right, left, and then right hand again. Make sure to hold after that last punch to make it a straight punch rather than a cross! BBC Students can also practice their "Slap Fist" by starting in a fighting stance with their hands in guard, students should bring their feet together as they pick up their right foot. Students should bring their right fist to their ear as they lower their left hand. As students stop with their right foot they should strike down with their right fist and slap with their left hand. For an added challenge try to knock out 20 push-ups, 30 elbow to knee crunches, 10 frog leaps, 25 Jumping Jacks and 45 seconds of your Horse Stance!

Adult/Teen BBC Program: Teen and Adult BBC students worked on section 4 of the Great Power form. Practice the application drill you focused on in class! Students should also go over their "Spear Hand." To practice your spear hand, students should start in a fighting stance with their hands in guard, students should block down with their left hand as they step forward into a bow stance. As they sink into the stance they should extend their right hand straight forward as is striking towards an opponents neck. Try practicing section 3 at home 10 times before your next class! For an added bonus try doing flat palm, knuckle, and fingertip pushups for 20 seconds each. As well as 20 seconds of knee slap and elbow to knee crunches, and a 2 minute horse stance.

Weapons: Weapons students learned a few exercises to strengthen the wrist such as wrist curls, and side raises, students should also work on their coil and point. Students also reviewed the whole form (Try to remember the pattern). Practice the whole form start to finish ten times before your next class!
