Hello AMAI Family!
In this blog series we will be posting reminders of what the students worked on the previous week. This could be helpful to make sure you know what you or your child should be working on while at home. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form then talk to your instructor about adding A Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that breakdown every section of your form and every technique! Last week was stripe testing, congratulations to everyone that tested and got their stripes!

Lil’ Dragons:
The Lil’ Dragons worked on their Dragon form this week and the techniques we worked on this past week were their ‘Close The Gate’ and their ‘Go Home.’ To practice their close the gate, students can stand on one spot and try to hold their balance as long as possible in their crane stance. Students should reach up as high as they can in their crane stance! For their go home, parents can grab onto their students wrists. Students should make two small circles with their hands before quickly pushing down to break their attackers grip. Keep up the good work and don’t forget to practice the form!

BASIC Program: BASIC Program students worked on sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Fighting Form! Focus on combining all three sections into one fluid form without stopping. The techniques that the Basic Students worked on are ‘Step Up Knee’ and ‘Uppercut.’ To practice the step up knee students should start in a fighting stance with their hands in guard. A Students should step forward with their rear leg as they put their hands together. Students should then pick their rear knee straight up as they bring their hands down and slap their knee! For the uppercut students should start in a left side fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should drop their right elbow so their forearm is in line with their waist. Students should punch forwards and up as they twist their shoulders to add power to the strike! For an added challenge try to knock out 15 push-ups, 30 elbow to knee crunches, and a 45 seconds Horse Stance!

Kids BBC Program: Last week the Kids BBC students worked on sections 3+4 of the Great Power form. Practice sections 3+4 at home at least 10 times before next week! BBC Students can also practice their ‘Spear Hand’ by starting in a fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should block down their their forward hand and step forward with their rear leg into a bow stance. As they step into their bow stance students should shoot their right hand straight out in front of them, make sure your fingers are pointed towards your target! BBC Students can also practice their ‘Forward Knee’ by starting in a fighting stance with their hands in guard. Students should pick up their rear knee and lean back as they drive their knee straight forward as if kneeing an attacker in the hip or groin. For an added challenge try to knock out 20 push-ups, 30 elbow to knee crunches, 10 frog leaps, 25 Jumping Jacks and 45 seconds of your Horse Stance!

Adult/Teen BBC Program: Teen and Adult BBC students worked on section 4 of the Great Power form. Practice the application drill you focused on in class! Students should also go over their ‘Forward Knee.’ To practice your forward knee, students should start in a fighting stance with their hands in guard, students should pick up their rear knee to waist height, students should drive their knee forwards with their hips as their shoulders lean back. Try practicing section 3 at home 10 times before your next class! For an added bonus try doing flat palm, knuckle, and fingertip pushups for 20 seconds each. As well as 20 seconds of knee slap and elbow to knee crunches, and a 2 minute horse stance.

Weapons: Weapons students learned a few exercises to strengthen the wrist such as holding the spear shoulder level with a straight arm, and knuckle pushups, students should also work on their room clear. Students also reviewed the whole form (Continue memorizing the pattern). Practice the whole form start to finish ten times before your next class!
