In this blog series, we will post reminders of what the students worked on during the previous week. This gives you or your child ideas for how to practice at home between classes. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form, talk to your instructor about adding a Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that break down every section of your form and every technique!

 

Last week was the 10th week of our Fall 2021 Quarter. Only ONE more week until testing! Don’t forget to sign up!

 

Lil’ Dragons:  The Lil’ Dragons worked on Tiger Claw! Practice hitting your Tiger Claw into a pillow, and don’t forget that the Tiger Claw goes with the “Wah!” Practice your Tiger Claws at home by using the Big Circle technique to block an imaginary bad guy’s attack, then striking with a super strong Tiger Claw! BASIC Program: Kids Basic students worked on section 2 of the form. They also reviewed their crane stance, drop stance, and the Snake Creeps Down movement. Challenge yourself to hold your balance in a crane stance for 5 seconds before dropping down for Snake Creeps Down! 

Teen and Adult BASIC students continued practicing their Five Stances Form. Review your line kicks and basic blocks this week. For the line kicks, work on getting your posture upright and your leg straight for your swing kicks. For the blocks, work on making them strong, like a strike. 

Kids BBC Program: As test week gets closer, BBC students are reviewing and practicing the whole crane form. They also practiced the self defense from sections 3 and 4. The self defense for section 3 is from a shoulder grab; the defender uses their right hand to peel the attacker’s hand, then uses their other hand to strike the attacker’s tricep with a Crane Fist punch. The self defense for section 4 is a defense against a punch: use your Wing Block to block the punch, then strike back with a Crane Neck. 

 

Adult/Teen BBC Program: This week, the Adult and Teen BBC students focused on sections 1 through 4 of the Golden Crested Crane form. The focus for this week is Shadow Boxing. Work on making your movements smooth and confident–commit to each movement and focus on continuing without pauses through 5 movements in a row. 

 

Foundation Weapons: In Foundation Weapons class this week, students reviewed their entire 16-Step Straight Sword Form. They also focused on shadowboxing. Focus on confidence in your shadowboxing–commit to movements and try to flow smoothly from one to the next. 

Advanced Weapons: In Advanced Weapons class this week, students reviewed sections 1 through 4 of the Yin Shao Staff Form. Performance of the form was the main focus again this week. Review shadowboxing and techniques in your practice; try to incorporate those basic techniques into your shadowboxing combinations.
