Hello AMAI Family!


In this blog series, we will post reminders of what the students worked on during the previous week. This gives you or your child ideas for how to practice at home between classes. If you need extra help on any movements or sections of the form, talk to your instructor about adding a Virtual Membership onto your current membership to unlock videos that break down every section of your form and every technique! This was the last week before testing so make sure you are ready to test and do your best! All students are required to wear their full uniform and their current belt to test.



Lil’ Dragons:  Lil’ Dragons students warmed up with animal walks. They focused on the techniques Rest Stance and Inside Crescent Kick. To help with their Inside Crescent Kick students should kick their left foot up and across to the right hitting the side of their target. For an added bonus, they can drop into their Rest Stance as soon as they finish their kick to dodge any bad guy’s strike! Keep on practicing your form with the words to get ready for test week!


BASIC Program: Kids BASIC students warmed up with an endurance workout. They reviewed each section of their form and then practiced putting them together and performing. They focused on combining all three sections into one cohesive form for testing!

Teen and Adult Basic students also worked on on their entire form focusing on refining each of their basic techniques. They worked on performing all three sections of their form together to prepare for their test. They also worked on building combinations with their basic techniques.


Kids BBC Program: Kids BBC students started class an endurance warmup to prepare them for their test. Students worked on their self defense applications from all four sections of the form. Students also reviewed their abduction defense, learning how to manage distance using Thrust Kicks and Lunge Kicks to keep bad guys away. They also reviewed how to safely fall if pushed over and how to fight off bad guys and get back to their feet. Keep practicing your form to prepare for testing!  


Adult/Teen BBC Program: This week, the Adult and Teen BBC students warmed up by preparing for the endurance portion of their test with flat palm, knuckle, and fingertip pushups as well as crunches, squats, and a horse stance. They came up with Nan Quan shadow boxing combinations and drilled one step to prepare for their test.


Foundation Weapons: Students in the Foundation section of weapons warmed up with Simple fighting combinations made by their instructor. The focus was on performing their entire form start to finish maintaining low stances. Students also build shadow boxing combinations.


Advanced Weapons: Advanced weapon students warmed up with simple fighting combinations made by their instructor and some they made themselves. Like the foundation weapon students, they worked on performing their entire form. Students focused on controlling their breathing and keeping low stances. Advanced weapon students also worked on shadow boxing combinations as well as slow sparring.
